As I was browsing through my favorite magazine Cloth Paper Scissors, I came across a wonderful creation submitted by a reader. She had made a Spirit Ladder out of twigs, fabric scraps, beads and wire. Its purpose, the reader said, was to help with transitions… moving on, reaching out and climbing higher.
I decided to make this one for myself to help me in my transition to my new “decade”.
I found some twigs in the back yard, and joined them together with wire in a ladder shape. I added fabric scraps left over from previous projects, ribbons, beads and metal charms. Everything on it has a personal symbolic meaning to me, and it just makes me happy to look at it. I have it hanging on the door of my craft room where I can see it every day.
I love my spirit ladder so much, that I might just make some to sell in my etsy shop, or maybe for gifts. What do you think?

I love your spirit ladder. What an interesting concept! You have done a beautiful job with yours – no wonder you enjoy it so much.
Re: turning 50 – my husband shared this thought recently with a friend who had just turned 60 – his wise words “be grateful you have the privilege of turning 60. Many people never do.”
Sure gave me a different perspective!

Hi Pam!
I’m so sorry I didn’t see your comment when you left it two whole months ago!! I’ve been away from my blog for a while because of that darn day job I have. But our busy time is over, so I’m ready to get back to work on my blog and crafty business. Thank you for your sweet comments about my spirit ladder. It made me very happy to create it, because it was just for me and the way I was feeling around my birthday, I needed that. Now that I have time, I really need to take some better photos of it though. Ugh.
Thanks to you and your husband for the words of wisdom on getting older. It is so true. I am feeling much better about being 50, and have realized how grateful I am to have the opportunity to move forward into a new decade. It just took me a while to wrap my brain around it though!
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with me. It’s always a treat to hear from you!

hi Kathleen! i love this concept and the way you executed yours. i’m working on two pieces right now, one in honor of each of my grandmothers, and have been thinking of them as memory boxes, but your work makes me think i can extend the concept further. (think out side the box, HA) thanks for sharing!!
