Fun “New” Thrifted Purse

I guess I’m kind of a purse addict. I love them, and I love to change purses a lot. I don’t like to pay a lot for them though. I’m just not the expensive Coach purse kind of gal. I suppose because I like to change purses so often, I would get tired of an expensive purse, feel guilty because I paid so much for it, and so forth… I don’t need that kind of stress, ya know? I’m too busy being neurotic about other things in my life. But I digress…

I found this nice, very new looking purse at the thrift store (my fav place to purse shop). I liked the size of it, the crocheted texture, the lining was in very nice, unused shape and it had a zipper at the top. Its only flaw? Boring! But I figured that I could do something about that, so for $3, I had a new project and soon, a new purse.

So I went into my fabric stash, which consists of pieces of thrifted clothing to be repurposed, as well as new fabrics and pulled out a few patterns and colors I liked together. I cut about a 12″ square piece from each fabric and applied interfacing to the back for stability.

I then got out my trusty Sizzix Big Kick die cutter and 2 different flower shaped dies and cut flower shapes from all the fabrics. Then came the fun part–I played with all the pieces and put them together in different combinations that I liked.

I then did a little hand embroidery on them, in a contrasting pink and added buttons to some. I cut 4 squares of white felt to place them on before I hand sewed them on to the purse, for a block effect.

The finished purse. I placed one block on the back side.

I am pretty happy with how it turned out. The colors are probably a little more springy than fall-ish but I like it anyway. It went from boring to happy. I plan to try this again soon. Let me know if you do, I’d love to see the results!
